Fatih Fountain Conservation Project

The fountain structure with a rectangular prism mass located in Seyit Ömer Neighborhood of Fatih District, block 1743, parcel 10, is adjacent to the neighboring buildings from the north and west facades. This fountain is included in the 3rd volume of the work titled Istanbul Historical Fountains Collection published by the General Directorate of İski, but no detailed information is given. In another source, where the image of the fountain is included, there is information about another fountain in the close vicinity. As a result, no satisfactory data could be reached regarding the name and history of the building in the restitution researches. A deep niche was formed 70-80 cm inside the wall built with rough cut stone. The mirror stone is located in a second niche with a pointed arch. There is a cartridge with deformed border lines. Below it is a profiled floral motif in the form of a pointed arch. There is an oil lamp motif on the upper part. Its hull is broken and the stones of the bench have been removed. The eastern façade of the building consists of alternating stone brick masonry. A row of stones is followed by 2 rows of bricks. The main approach of the restoration work has been to develop a proposal in accordance with the original details, plan scheme, materials and conservation principles determined in the restitution work with minimal intervention to the building.The conservation projects approved by Cultural Heritage Preservation Board in 2021.
